5 Days and counting

August 2, 2010 //  by Simone//  3 Comments

The BIG day is almost here! Only 5 more days until Isaac gets married. I’m almost ready too. I had my dress fitted this weekend. I got smashing earrings at a fire-sale price this weekend. And, I gave myself a facial this weekend. Now, all I need is a manicure, pedicure, and my hair tamed.

Hmmm…what else?

Maybe a necklace if I can find a nice one on sale, but I plan to give my brother and Rebeka the perfect wedding gift…cash. So, I can’t spend a lot of money.

I have to say writing this blog and reading your responses and experiences has been good for me. Y’all have been so supportive and have offered so much wisdom and encouragement. Keep it coming! I don’t have the anxiety that I had 23 days ago about facing my friends and family and I’m armed with some responses to the question “When are you getting married?” Here’s a few:

1. I plan to remain wild and single.

2. I’m taking my time, but only start worrying if I haven’t found someone in 60 years or so.

3. It’s a mystery.

4. 17 days from now (insert sarcasm).

5. It could be a while. God is preparing someone really special.

I LOVED this! I read the whole blog.

In response to this particular post, besides the uncouth response from 27 Dresses that we discussed last night at Screen on the Green, I'm thinking "God knows" is the shortest / least pitiful answer that also happens to be the truth 🙂 But honestly, just enjoy the wedding, don't worry about this!

And keep enjoying life and enjoying time with God. I HATE to think of this period of immersion in only God as a waiting period until a man gets sense enough to marry me. May God and His happiness always be my number 1 goal. ALL other things are icing on the cake. It would be wonderful to have a partner to please God with, but it is certainly not necessary.

But, the questions, the looks, the pity, the judgment from the outside world can definitely hamper your enjoyment of life. It strikes the sore spot in our consciousness that we thought we buried and brings up all the doubts about ourselves that we thought we'd quieted with our career, friends, and fabulous life. It can be annoying at times, but mostly it is hurtful because we don't want to seem like we have failed in the eyes of others or that we aren't as good as we should be.

But Pastor J.R. Vassar breaks down why these concerns and this worry is futile in the best 45 minute podcast EVER. http://www.dcdistrictdiva.com/?p=865. The sermon is called Freedom from the Fear of Man, and I listen to it, sometimes multiple times a day, like I did leading up to my 25th birthday when I was feeling my quarter-life crisis coming on. Listen to this on repeat over the next couple of days before the wedding and let God take over! All this worry will melt away.
    🙂

It was so nice meeting you, and I'll be praying for you!

WOW! Diva, thank you for reading and I appreciate your comments. I read a couple of your posts too! Addicted to Love and the Quarter-Life: Hold the Crisis. The title is awesome…good alliteration:-) And, I love that your are Chasing God + Purpose.

I'm listening to the podcast now. I TOTALLY agree with you about the "waiting." Yes, living my life to glorify God is number 1 goal. I try to remember to ask for help from Him in that area everyday…sometimes I forget.

Happy belated 25th Birthday! My brother's birthday was this weekend also. It was great to meet you too…I hope that our paths cross again soon.
