Community Bike Rides, North Nashville (2018 and 2019)
In North Nashville, we are in desperate need of rituals that bring people together across differing backgrounds. Because our neighborhood is changing and there is often distrust between long-term and new residents. Over two summers, I helped curate monthly community bike rides.
The goal of the community bike rides were to:
- Connect neighbors
- Foster belonging and
- Get more people onto the street.
We partnered with Walk Bike Nashville, Metro Police (North Precinct) and Metro Parks. Walk Bike Nashville planned the route, brought extra bikes, helmets, snacks and water. North Police Precinct helped us navigate the streets, and our local park community center extended its hours so that we would have access to the bathrooms.
